[ On the contrary, she doesn't think he looks uncool at all. It may be pretty ...evident by now, but she prizes sincerity—and so she can't help but admire him a little for showing his feelings so candidly. Even if they're sad ones. Besides... she can kind of relate to the sad ones right now.
She glances back towards him again, her gaze kind. ]
I can see that you have experienced a true adventure, no? [ Going to school (yes... school is an adventure to her) and traveling through space... they sound like wild dreams to her. It reminds her that her world, such as it was, was actually just a small part of a much larger universe, just as this moment is of a much larger narrative. Small, but still important, no? ]
It gladdens me to know that you have seen it again. Is this beach very similar to the one you knew?
Oh yeah, [ he says without hesitation, looking both in awe and a little in wonder. ] It's kind of uncanny. I mean there are differences — [ he lifts a hand, pointing towards the sand closest to the water, ] there aren't any old coral, or discarded shells, and the sand's just a little softer than I remember. But everything else...? The way the water looks, the way it moves. It's actually kinda freaky.
[ he laughs a little, letting the hand rest behind his neck. ]
Like maybe the universe isn't really as big as you think it is...
[ She can clearly see how important his home and his memories of it are just in the way he describes the similarities and differences, in the tone of his voice and the expression on his face. The little details he remembers, unworn by time and space. ]
Is that so very strange? [ It's a gentle question. In the context she knows, after all, all beaches look like this, or something similar. ]
I do admit that I know very little of the universe—only the world I knew. The beach near my family's summer villa... was not so different as this either.
[ There's a wistfulness in her voice when she mentions the villa... ]
( ooc; so sorry for the long wait! rl kind of ate me up for a bit there ;; )
I dunno... maybe it shouldn't be that strange. [ there is a small, nagging voice in the back of his mind — it's all too familiar, too close. almost too uncanny. as if it were too good to be true.
but they were thoughts better meant for a quieter time. alone, and not in the company of a friend. so he turns to her, brows lifting slightly at her tone. ]
Summer villa, huh...? Sounds fancy.
[ there's a light teasing in his tone, punctuated by the soft smile on his lips. ]
