[ lance already slips towards the front, after sparing a moment to actually... consider whether or not he's actually seen any kids running around here... huh.
ANYWAY, he disappears for exactly forty-five seconds, during which the general sounds of the restaurant persists. and then there is a pin-drop of silence.
and then lance is scrambling back towards the back, an enraged restaurant owner right at his heels. ]
I told you to stay in the back!!
[ lance hangs back for sure now, not quite behind stiles but also not quite not behind stiles... ]
Sorry, boss! I was just stretching out the ol' legs!
[ the man grumbles loudly, but is eager to turn back around and head back so he leaves the two alone in due time. once the man's completely gone, lance turns to stiles with a sharp whisper. ]
Dude, something weird's going on in front. I'm positive.
[ Stiles is doing a marvelous impression of looking like he's working while actually craning his neck to see how Lance is doing... right until he comes barreling back, the owner of the restaurant yelling, his round face red and enraged.
right about then is a good time to pretend he's working really hard — but the second the owner is gone and Lance is whispering to him, Stiles turns to face him with a nod and a whispered response. ]
Yeah, with that kind of a reaction? Definitely something fishy. I mean, I thought it was weird he just offered me some money out of nowhere, like, I had barely picked up the menu when he was just there, asking if I wanted a job for the night... but maybe, maybe it was to get me out of there.
[ lance nods along, arms folding over his chest in thought. ]
We're not that far from the Red Light District, [ he muses, ] which is usually a bit more lax when it comes to... shady stuff. [ though from what he can gather of keith's patrolling, it's not as if crime is rampant down there. it just so happens that most people who would normally act as witnesses would prefer to just turn a blind eye. ]
It looked like there was some kind of meeting happening upstairs. The whole floor was empty, except for the corner table.
