[Mipha hesitates a moment, pressing her hands together.]
...In my world, a Champion was chosen from each race to pilot one of the Divine Beasts. I was chosen to represent the Zora, and so... I was away from home quite a lot.
There was... an accident. I'm afraid it's been a hundred years or more since I was able to speak to him last.
[ lance quiets, watching her carefully. he cannot help but feel a tug in his chest when she speaks, just as he is helpless to do anything but reach out and place a comforting hand on her shoulder. ]
I'm sorry... It's been a long time since I saw my family, too. [ granted, it hasn't been a hundred years, but some days it felt like it may as well be. especially when he realizes many of them probably don't even know if he's alive or not.
[She glances curiously, hesitating a moment because she wants to know, but would it be too rude to ask?] May I... Ask why? You do not have to answer, of course...
[There. He has no obligation to tell her his story or anything, but she's curious all the same and hey! Maybe they can find some more common ground there.
At the question, Mipha smiles and nods] I did--Him and my father. He's gotten much, much taller than I am and he seems to have grown into a fine prince and warrior. Just looking at him I feel proud of the person he must have grown into.
[ he laughs quietly, running an idle hand through his hair. since his hand was wet, it makes his short hair stick up in odd angles, but he doesn't seem to notice. ]
I was away for school, for a year. We'd still call and all, so you know, it wasn't too bad... But then some stuff kinda happened, and I had to leave the planet suddenly.
[ he shrugs his shoulders. a long story. ]
Something bigger than me, and my family. It's been... months? Maybe even a whole other year, I'm not too sure. They still don't know what happened to me.
[ he smiles upon hearing she's found her family. it makes his chest feel warm, reminding him of the first time he saw his own mother in the stasis unit... ]
I saw my mom, too. I haven't yet found everybody else, but I know they're all there somewhere.
Leave the planet? [She looks surprised at that, but she figures everyone now has a similar story what with the Storm and all, though from the way Lance is talking this happened long before that.]
It's the same with my people. Or, rather... They have an idea of what happened, but... The people that love you will always cling to hope, no matter what. I'm sure once they awaken, your family will be overjoyed to see you alive and well.
[Mipha looks up at him, determined and set in her conviction..] And they will awaken.

...Thanks, Mipha. I hope I get to meet your family one day. They sound really cool.
[ he sniffles again, reaching up to brush his nose with the back of his hand.
anyway... enough of that. ]
So... a little birdie told me the winner of our race gets a popsicle. How about it?
