[ vane knows just as much as lance does, tbh. all he's got on him is a sack provided to them by their benefactor, so he assumes you just yank and fill...
once they reach the first root, he frowns down at it before lowering to a squat. the sack he hands over to vane, working his own hands on the sprouts peeking out over the snow. ]
[ he takes the sack and just sort of slings it over his shoulder. he stands beside lance, almost testing the strength of the root just by observing lance. it's needless to say it doesn't yield any real results. ] Mmm....
[ he leans forward if just to hold onto lance's waist. ] Yep! Ready when you are!
[ or so he says, but he's... already tugging lance's body pretty hard. as for the root, if they said it was loud.

[ why... is he being held like this...............
though i mean i guess it works??? lance definitely hadn't been strong enough to pull the thing out on his own BUT MAN OH MAN IS THAT THING LOUD. suddenly all shyness about being grabbed around his waist is thrown out the window. now he's just hastily holding the root out towards vane, trying to shout over its cries. ]
[ he... thought it seemed like the most supportive stance a man could take?
maybe not. but, being so hyper-focused on the actual pulling part blind-sighted him to a lot of things. which unfortunately, included preparing the sack. it's why the screaming carries on for a bit longer than he intends (or intended). ] S-sack, yeah, I got it right here! Hold on!! I'm going to save you!! [ clumsily, he reaches back over his shoulder for the sack. he then unceremoniously...
throws the whole sack over both lance and the root. admittedly, the root is a bit quieter now from the dark. the dark that is likely drowning out its desires to scream and be heard. but, does that change the fact ... hm, something about this feels off? ]
[ ah, this is a problem. ] My bad, my bad. [ he takes the sack off from lance. the wailing begins once more, but it's probably a decent price to pay for ... not selling off his companion. sad trade offs. he then holds the sack open.
he tilts his head, a silent "like this?" attached to his actions. ]
[ lance just nods in response, stiffly plopping the crying root into the sack. as soon as the darkness envelopes it again, it quiets, seemingly soothed.
he looks down at it in wonder, idly shaking his head. ]
I'd hate to be the guy that's gotta make something out of these. [ maybe the man had night-vision or something... or really good ear plugs. ]
Hmm... [ he makes a long drawn out sound of consideration before— ]
Aren't they prepared into something else before the whole blade-forging part? [ even from home, he recalls materials being extracted in that way. he can't say it's for sure here, but... is he going to bring this up now? yes. ]
[ ... ] Is that what happens to these little guys? [ does vane look genuinely pained and sad?yes, a little bit. he guesses they're just plants. probably no different than what he cuts up and puts in his apple pies, but ... apples also don't scream.
he seems to deliberate over this a painful amount. ]
