[ lance's attention drifts down to the hand on his arm, then down to the sand between his toes. unconsciously, his toes curl, as if to hold onto it a little longer. ]
Yeah, I guess you're right...
[ still, there is a note of hollowness in his tone. who knows when this world, too, will be swallowed up...
but it's a note he doesn't wish to dwell on, so a moment later he's shaking his head and turning back towards her. ]
But where's the fun in holding back? [ slowly, his lips spread into a genuine smile, tinged with mischievousness. ]
[Despite her words, she's glad that Lance seems to be turning towards a brighter side of things. While getting out all those negative emotions is important, she'd rather he cheer up, and he certainly seems on the way to that.
She looks briefly started though before she laughs]
[ he holds his arms out towards it, a universal "come at me!" gesture but instead of daring the waters to come to him, he's warning the waters that he'll be there soon. ]
[Mipha looks out towards the water and takes a deep breath--it certainly did feel like there was a certain siren's call to the water, and she's filled with the desire to go diving in and down as deep as she can.
Not that Lance could do that without the proper gear, but maybe at a later opportunity she can show him what she's found under there and how beautiful it all is. As it is though, she just nods in acceptance--to the water!-- and then adds:]
[ typically, lance would default to "bragging right" because there's usually little else he could ever want. and while he's friendly with mipha, he isn't about to go wagering favors and the like. ]
Winner gets... a popsicle!
[ ooh, 2fast 2furious, this beach boy's a hard roller. ]
A Popsicle? [She echoes him and laughs despite herself. It seems like such a little thing, but in the spirit of friendly competition it's perfectly acceptable.]
Alright. A popsicle then. Shall we begin? [AAAND SHE'S OFF. BYE LANCE.]
[ what happened to a noble's honor, mipha, gosh. but despite his brief whine, he's laughing soon after and taking off. she may have had a head start, but he's definitely got the height on her, so it's not long before he's catching up. ]
Oh! [She's got short legs and she's running on the sand--she's clearly at a disadvantage here. It doesn't take long for him to not only catch up, but overcome her.
She goes as hard as she can, but alas. She's going to lose unless he deliberately lets her win, but when they reach the water she doubles over, hands on her knees and breathing hard.]
Next time... We can race in the water! [Then she'll win for sure.]
( ooc; apologies for the wait! rl kind of got away from me there... )
Are you kidding? You'd mop the entire ocean floor with me!
[ but his laughter that follows doesn't necessarily seem to imply he wouldn't agree to a waterlogged rematch. they're only about knee-deep into the water now, and once he's checked to make sure she's alright, he moves further in, eager to feel the water all over. ]
[Mipha hangs back a little, letting the waves lap up over her skin. It's different than the fresh water she's used to from the Zora domain, but it's a welcoming change, still familiar enough to be comforting.
Normally one might say something like, 'did you expect it to be different?' but Mipha can understand the surprise.]
I understand what you mean... Everything else is so different at times, you almost expect this to be so too, but... I'm glad. It's a little more like being home, in a way. [She watches the waves a moment before turning her attention back to Lance.]
Oh man. [ it's like mipha asked the Right Question, hitting some sort of verbal jackpot. his eyes light up, unabashed, staring out into the waters. ]
All sorts of things. Do you have surfing in your world? Surfing, paddle-boarding, boogie-boarding, pretty much all the boardings. There's rowing, too, but I prefer kayaking. If we had the money, we'd rent some jet skis and take 'em for a spin, too.
What about you? They must have all kinds of fun things to do where you're from!
[Mipha listens, easily able to imagine the things he's saying--they're all the sorts of things Hylians and everyone would get up to too, though things like 'jet skis' goes over her head.]
Much the same, I suppose. Swimming, fishing... Swimming up and jumping from waterfalls was quite popular, and I imagine it continued to be. I suppose... There wasn't too much time for fun though, not exactly.
[What with the looming threat of calamity ganon and all, but she shakes her head] But that's a rather sad topic. I on't ruin the day. [She looks out across the ocean]
But I used to swim with my younger brother often. And he loved to dive. [She laughs] It caused myself and my father no small amount of panic. I'm sure he became a great warrior.
[ lance tilts his head at that, brows furrowing slightly in confusion. he doesn't want to pry, because she said so herself that she wouldn't want to speak of something sad, but there's something about that last part there that leaves him wondering... ]
[Mipha hesitates a moment, pressing her hands together.]
...In my world, a Champion was chosen from each race to pilot one of the Divine Beasts. I was chosen to represent the Zora, and so... I was away from home quite a lot.
There was... an accident. I'm afraid it's been a hundred years or more since I was able to speak to him last.
[ lance quiets, watching her carefully. he cannot help but feel a tug in his chest when she speaks, just as he is helpless to do anything but reach out and place a comforting hand on her shoulder. ]
I'm sorry... It's been a long time since I saw my family, too. [ granted, it hasn't been a hundred years, but some days it felt like it may as well be. especially when he realizes many of them probably don't even know if he's alive or not.
[She glances curiously, hesitating a moment because she wants to know, but would it be too rude to ask?] May I... Ask why? You do not have to answer, of course...
[There. He has no obligation to tell her his story or anything, but she's curious all the same and hey! Maybe they can find some more common ground there.
At the question, Mipha smiles and nods] I did--Him and my father. He's gotten much, much taller than I am and he seems to have grown into a fine prince and warrior. Just looking at him I feel proud of the person he must have grown into.
[ he laughs quietly, running an idle hand through his hair. since his hand was wet, it makes his short hair stick up in odd angles, but he doesn't seem to notice. ]
I was away for school, for a year. We'd still call and all, so you know, it wasn't too bad... But then some stuff kinda happened, and I had to leave the planet suddenly.
[ he shrugs his shoulders. a long story. ]
Something bigger than me, and my family. It's been... months? Maybe even a whole other year, I'm not too sure. They still don't know what happened to me.
[ he smiles upon hearing she's found her family. it makes his chest feel warm, reminding him of the first time he saw his own mother in the stasis unit... ]
I saw my mom, too. I haven't yet found everybody else, but I know they're all there somewhere.
Leave the planet? [She looks surprised at that, but she figures everyone now has a similar story what with the Storm and all, though from the way Lance is talking this happened long before that.]
It's the same with my people. Or, rather... They have an idea of what happened, but... The people that love you will always cling to hope, no matter what. I'm sure once they awaken, your family will be overjoyed to see you alive and well.
[Mipha looks up at him, determined and set in her conviction..] And they will awaken.
(☞゚ヮ゚)☞ mipha

C'mon — I'll race ya.

Is there a prize?

So... a little birdie told me the winner of our race gets a popsicle. How about it?
