[ lance could hardly begrudge her a moment, considering here's here taken up several. but despite the bittersweet feelings welling up in his chest, threatening to make him cry even more, he isn't all that inclined to dwell... he generally prefers to stick to the more positive, optimistic thoughts, and so after a few more wipes along his eyes with the back of his hand, he's turning back to juvia. chin up, chest slightly out, a look of determination on his face. ]
I'm ready.
[ after all, what fool would let a chance like this go to waste?? ]
Leave it to me. [ His determination spreads to her, easily. She edges herself towards the water, turning towards Lance once her feet are in the water. ] This water shell contains fifteen minutes worth of air. You will need to wear it. [ As she speaks, it materializes from thin air in the palm of her hands-- floating just a few inches above.
She extends her arm forward, waiting for him to come closer so she can hand it off to him ]
When you need to refill, swim back up to the surface and Juvia will give you another.
[ they remind him so much of the air bubbles queen luxia and her people had used for him and hunk, so he approaches the shell without any trace of fear. indeed, he looks quite excited for it—
that is, until the rest of her words reach him. ]
—huh?
[ he tilts to the side a little, arching a brow at her from around the water shell. ]
No way, remember our deal? You gotta go down with me!
[ Of course she remembers! The implication that she doesn't almost makes her furrow her brow, but there's something.. warm, she would say, about how insistence on her going.
She tilts her head as well, her tilt being a little more dramatic, to match his. ]
It's goes without saying that Juvia will be coming with you.
[ he knows swimming isn't as big a deal for her as it is for him, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't want to share the experience with her, regardless. so he stands in front of her, hands at his hips, chest puffed out. ]
[ The bubble in her hand tears away, essentially disintegrating right back into her skin. She conjures another bubble, this one a little bigger than the example, around his head. ]
Follow me.
[ And don't speak!!!!!!! But she doesn't vocalize that, instead choosing to lead him through the shallow end of the water up until they reach where (at least she) can no longer stand. ]
[ She sinks into the water with practiced ease, looking a little creepy versus the excited and beach ready Juvia he saw moments before. She ushers him to follow-- well, her hand does, because it's the only thing that pops up out of the water to point downward. ]
except it's also kinda really freaky, but not in the scary or gross kind of freaky, just a whoa this is happening kind of freaky, and it's still happening, all of it, so he might as well dive in, headfirst.
so he does, holding his breath out of reflex. he waits until he's fully submerged, glancing around to find juvia before letting that breath out. and — yep, he can totally breathe! this is so cool!
he tries to say as much to her, anyway, but it probably comes out all muffled... ]
[ Juvia stares at him, smiling on reflex at his own realization that he can officially breathe underwater (for a short period of time). It's not like she gets to use her powers for things like this-- little promises made with the intent of fun, so she feels a little light-hearted soaking everything in.
Which, she does, as she looks around at the fish swimming through the waters and the alien plant life below. She motions down, towards a very colorful part of the floor she thinks he might enjoy. She doesn't so much swim when she leads them down, instead using the water to propel her forward.
She does take a second to stop and look back, to make sure he's still just fine. ]
[ oh don't you worry about lance. once he gets over the initial shock and awe of it all, he shows exactly why he and the blue lion get along so well. not that he's clumsy or ungraceful on land or anything, but he moves through the water like he's been doing so his whole life (which is sorta true anyway). he catches up with her quickly enough, his long arms and legs great for covering distance, and compact muscles taking him there without much struggle.
when she turns to look back at him, he just grins and flashes her a smile.
[ Truthfully, she hasn't done much down in the ocean on this planet, this being her first time. So when she turns her attention back towards the bottom of the floor, her brows naturally furrow. It's just a simple coral reef― but while it's simple, it makes up for that in its vibrant hues
She stops nearby the top of it, purposely slowing down as her hands skim the surface of it out of curiosity. Even briefly skims the scales of a fish that quickly tickles her hand, with how close they are. Juvia's not completely closed off to Lance, she's turned so that if he wants to join her there's room beside her.
Regardless, she does keep a firm eye on his bubble...can't have her friend drowning or anything like that ]
[ lance has been snorkeling, and even scuba-dove once with his brother. he's seen the ocean floor before, and its many inhabitants. but each and every time is always something to behold, and this is no exception.
he's right beside her in no time, marveling at the colors, the shapes. the fish he doesn't hesitate to reach out towards, laughing when they tickle his palm in their curiosity. it all looks so familiar, but there are minute differences (the brightness of a purple color, the texture of a scale) that sets it apart enough from earth's ocean floor that keeps a constant reminder that he is not home, no matter how much he may close his eyes and wish it were true.
it's a slightly bittersweet tug in his chest, but it does not dull the brightness and wonder in his eyes as he dares to swim down even further, watching as a crab scuttles its way along the floor. ]
Juvia stays still beside him, as best she can in water, just watching Lance and his genuine reaction to everything around him. She really didn't know how much something like this might mean to him-- or anyone-- having the luxury of doing this whenever she wants.
She doesn't catch on to the way the sight makes him feel, but she does follow him. Past the stray fish, down towards whatever may have grabbed his attention near the floor. She brings a hand forward, sending a wave of water his way with the pure intent of pushing him closer to what he wants-- a tiny, mischievous smile spreading across her face soon after. ]
[ he'd been enjoying the view, watching the unsuspecting mr. crab scuttle his way across the sandy floor. he almost starts talking again, about to wonder aloud where mr. crab's home might be, if mrs. crab is waiting for him already. but then he feels a little push — a strange current and shift in the water, and suddenly he's drawing even closer to the little guy. he glances around in mild surprise, but upon seeing juvia's smile he just grins at her. his laughter is caught up in the bubble, muffled in that strange, contained echo. flashing her a thumbs up, he swims down even further, till he's near laying on the ocean floor himself. the crab had paused a little with the extra current, but upon sensing no real threat, continues along its way. unbeknownst to it, lance is right behind it, doing his own poor imitation of a crab walk. he keeps glancing over his shoulder.
[ She mimics his action, following after him just to glide across the very top of the ocean floor. Juvia laughs when she sees him fooling around— although the sound won't travel, Lance can see plain as day that she's enjoying herself. Even though she doesn't join in, because she's sure she can't beat his amazing display, she lets her fingers trail through the ground as they move alongside the crab. The sand flutters up the more she dips her fingers in, leaving a pathway behind.
It looks like the crab might be indirectly leading them somewhere, though.... It's faint, but the blue of the ocean can't hide it— they're heading towards a forest of kelp that reaches up high into the sky, swaying with each gentle movement of the water. A look of curiosity is sent Lance's way as she lets herself hover away from the ground, above Lance and his crab, inching closer towards the sight. She won't leave him behind, but she's more intent on touching the kelp than playing with the crab. ]
